New Thyssen Museum will also House International Works of Art

MALAGA.- Baroness Carmen Thyssen has announced today that the future museum, set to open in Malaga bearing her name, will also include international works of art in its permanent collection; works that will be added to the Andalusian and Spanish, which will conform the main part of the collection.

Carmen Thyssen, who visited the construction at the Palacio de Villalon, the building where the future museum will be housed, has explained that she will bring “some paintings that are international and not Spanish” and that very soon there will be a list of the definitive works of art that will comprise the permanent collection.

She stated that the project has her hopes high because she feels “happy” to cooperate with her collection and with her presence in the creation of a museum that will be “marvelous”, also because with it buildings are saved that otherwise would have been destroyed.

The Mayor Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, has shown his “satisfaction” by the visit and has the desire that the construction will end next fall and that the next stage will begin in the Los Martires street.

la Torre has thanked the Baroness “for being an art collector and for her generosity and for loaning her collection for free to be displayed for the eyes of the people of Malaga”.

The surface where the Carmen Thyssen Bornemisza Collection Museum will be built measures 1,700 square meters with a construction area consisting of 7,146 meters, distributed in a basement and tour floors above it.

On this space a building will be constructed that will house the museum, a library, an archeological exhibit gallery, a shop and the offices for the Foundation.

The Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Malaga will be housed at the Palacio Villalón, a two-story building from the XVI century structured around a central patio.
